LUKAS HOLLBACHER WINS RACE ONE THANKS TO THE HAZARDOUS CHOICE OF SLICK TYRES

Tramatza (Italy), 20th May 2023 – The heavy rain fell throughout the night and for the whole day did not stop the riders of the S1GP. Lukas Hollbacher (MTR Ktm Racing) rode a storming session and won Race One after qualifying in front of Thomas Chareyre (TC4R1 Racing) and Andreas Buschberger (Husqvarna).

S1GP Time practice & Superpole

Thomas Chareyre (TC4R1 Racing) enjoyed the time practice despite the wet track; the French rider ruled the session and created a solid gap over rivals. Marc Reiner Schmidt (L30 Racing TM Factory) could not find the right feeling with the wet track and had to feel happy with the second position. Steve Bonnal (TC4R1 Racing) battled through the pack to reach the top six and took the third position. The young French rider was also the best Rookie. In the Metzeler Superpole, Thomas Chareyre confirmed he is the fastest and came home with the pole position after finishing in front of Schmidt and Lukas Hollbacher (MTR Ktm Racing), who rounded off the front row. Elia Sammartin (L30 Racing TM Factory) qualified sixth and was the best among the Italian riders.

S1GP Race 1

Just a few minutes before the start the rain stopped, so the wind started to blow and dry up the circuit. Only two riders played the slick rear tyre card, a choice which could have given a result starting from mid race. Hollbacher and Buschberger dared so much. As the red lights blinked off, Thomas Chareyre was the author of a perfect start and took the lead, chased by Steve Bonnal who left behind Marc Reiner Schmidt for a couple of laps. Hollbacher and Buschberger struggled to keep up with the race pace in the first part of the race, but as the track started to dry up their rhythm started to increase lap after lap. Lukas Hollbacher made great progress and his recovery was phenomenal. With three laps to go, Hollbacher reached and overcame Thomas Chareyre as well as Andreas Buschberger and came home with the first place in the Rookie standings.
