THE JOKER LANE DECLARED THE VICTORY OF THOMAS CHAREYRE

Tramatza 26 May – The sunshine on the Sardinia Circuit was the prelude to a thrilling racing day for the second appointment with the S1GP World Championship. The day featured two breathtaking races, with the victory awarded to Marc Reiner Schmidt (L30 Racing) and Thomas Chareyre (SGR Grau Racing) in the Super Final. For the very first time in history, the Joker Line was crucial for assigning the GP victory to Thomas Chareyre, who overtook his rival and triumphed. In the Rookie Jules Avila Cortes (KTM MTR) clinched his second success in a row.

S1GP Fast Race

Thomas Chareyre (SGR Grau Racing) made another excellent start and pulled away from the first spot, followed by Elia Sammartin (Gazza Racing) in second place while Marc Reiner Schmidt (L30 Racing) rounded off the leading trio.

Schmidt had to stay behind Sammartin for a couple of laps before being able to overtake him. In the meantime, it seemed like Chareyre had opened a small gap, but the German rider started to increase his race pace and reached the race leader. In the fourth lap Marc Reiner Schmidt managed to take the lead thanks to a perfect maneuver in the start straight, but the French rider did not surrender and chased him closely trying to attack him in the last corners of the final lap, without making it. Marc Reiner Schmidt won the Fast Race finishing in front of Chareyre and Elia Sammartin, another excellent and fast rider.

After a tough first GP whose outcome was not up to his standards, Steve Bonnal (Team 11) recovered thanks to the fourth spot and qualified once again in front of Erik Tesconi (TM) who finished fifth despite a problem with the knee. Jules Avila Cortes (KTM MTR) only qualified with the sixth place but came home with the victory of the Rookie class.

S1GP SuperFinal

The Super Final was rich with emotions. At the start Marc Reiner Schmidt (L30 Racing) took the lead of the race in front of Thomas Chareyre (SGR Grau Racing) and Elia Sammartin (Gazza Racing). The trio moved far from their chasers and Schmidt also tried to open a gap over Chareyre but the French rider did not give up especially in the off-road section where he made the difference and did not allow the German rider to leave him behind. For 14 laps the two riders were one next to the other but with two laps to go Thomas Chareyre decided to enter the Joker Line, while Schmidt entered it only in the final lap and this was fatal for the German. Thomas was perfect in the two final laps and pushed himself to the limit to stay in front of his rival. At the finish line Chareyre won the Super Final and despite having the same number of points as Schmidt, he came home with the victory of the GP of Sardinia. Third spot went to Elia Sammartin, who was also third overall at the end of the day.

The victory of the Rookie went to Jules Avila Cortes (KTM MTR), despite being penalized with 15 seconds because of a jump start but prevailed over second qualified Tim Slazai (TM). Jan Ulman (Team 11) stepped for the first time on the podium in third place.

At the end of this second round Thomas Chareyre is holding the red plate tight and can count on a 14-point-advantage over Marc Reiner Schmidt.
