Tramatza (Italy), 13 May 2026 – Following a thrilling season opener in Spain, Supermoto World and European Championship is ready to land in Italy for the highly anticipated second round of the season. On the weekend of May 16th and 17th, the Sardinia Circuit WS98 in Tramatza (Oristano) will host the Grand Prix of Sardegna, a round that promises to be crucial for the balance of the world standings.
Sardegna Circuit WS98 is a technical and demanding track, characterized by abrasive asphalt and an off-road section that puts the riders’ technique to the test. The warmth of the Sardinian fans and the weather conditions—typically summer-like by mid-May—will represent an additional challenge for both riders and machines.
The world caravan arrives on Sardinian soil following the results in Albaida, where young Spanish talent Julen Avila Cortes (KTM MTR Team) surprised everyone by taking the overall victory. Thanks to a rock-solid performance, Avila Cortes arrives in Tramatza as the championship leader with 75 points, closely followed by multi-time world champion Marc Reiner Schmidt (Team Undici). Schmidt, making his official debut on the new Ducati, showed impressive speed by winning the Fast Race and the Super Final in Spain, but a technical issue in Race 1 forced him into a comeback, closing the first GP at 72 points. The duel between the leader’s KTM and the German champion’s Ducati will be the main storyline of the Sardinian weekend. The official entry list for the S1GP of Sardinia confirms the presence of the discipline’s top performers. Beyond the leading duo, all eyes will be on Frenchman Steve Bonnal (TSV Racing TM Corse), currently third in the standings with 61 points. There is great anticipation for the Italian squad, led by the experienced Elia Sammartin (BRT Honda), fifth in the world rankings and determined to use his home-field advantage to climb into the podium. In the Rookie, the spotlight will be on Swiss rider Mitja Krasniqi (Honda Gazza Racing), class leader after Spain, who must defend himself against attacks from Raphael Payet (KTM) and his teammate German Colin Beischroth.
The S4 Supermoto European Championship lands in Sardinia for the seasonal debut.Following the success of the 2025 edition, which was held as a single event, the S4 European Championship triples its strength: for 2026, three rounds are scheduled, a growth that testifies to the increasing international interest in this spectacular “only tarmac” discipline. The transition from a single race to a three-round calendar radically transforms the management of the championship.
The hunt for the throne is officially open: with the move of the reigning champion, Spaniard Julen Avila Cortes, to the premier S1GP class, the S4 class prepares to crown a new king, guaranteeing spectacular racing from the very first green light. The starting grid promises to be international and of the highest level, with a strong Italian representation and fierce contenders coming from Poland and Spain. The riders are ready for battle. Anticipation is high to see the large Italian “patrol” on Honda in action, led by well-known names such as Alessandro Sciarretta and Alessandro Morosi, who will have to face the international experience of the Pole Kamil Krzemien and the speed of the Spanish riders, most notably the Gourdon brothers.
The S2 class delivered great excitement in Spain and arrives in Tramatza with a very tight leaderboard. Ukrainian rider Yevsevii Kovalov leads the championship with 45 points, thanks to a race win and a second-place finish. There is high anticipation for the “Azzurro” Leonardo Lapadula, currently second with 40 points, who is determined to leap into the lead at his home GP after an excellent performance in Albaida. Following closely behind are Romanian Mark Luca Iovita with 38 points, and Swiss rider Nathan Terraneo with 37 points, who demonstrated incredible speed by winning Race 2 with a massive gap; however, a slide in the first heat took him out of the contention for the overall win. The strong Italian representation in S2 also sees Daniele Cornolti (22 pts), Diego Colognesi (19 pts), Riccardo Andreotti (17 pts), and Riccardo Olivier (16 pts) ready for redemption.
There is great anticipation in Tramatza for the second round of the SM Junior European Championship, reserved for the champions of tomorrow. After the opening round in Albaida, the standings are led by Hungarian David Zsolt Bereczki, who secured a perfect double victory to earn 50 points. The fight for the podium in Sardinia promises to be wide open; in second place, tied with 42 points, we find Romanian Mark Szabo and German Lorenz Bang. Szabo showed great consistency with a second place in Race 2, while Bang shone in the first fraction. Seeking redemption is Briton Edward Darnton, currently fourth with 36 points, followed by Belgian Jean Rondeaux (31 points). Also worth watching closely are the performances of Austrians Diego Walkner and Lukas Kraus, as well as the very young Polish rider Liliana Irzyk, who surprised everyone with a solid seventh place in the general standings after the first round.
